The League of Gentlemen met at Bretton Hall Drama College in Leeds. They are Steve Pemberton, from Bolton, Jeremy Dyson from Leeds, Reece Shearsmith, from Longhill, Hull, and Mark Gatiss, from Northumberland. Before the television series, the boys had a Radio 4 show called "On the Town" which featured many of Royston Vasey's characters. The radio show, a roaring success, moved to BBC 2, and featured a theme composed by the Divine Comedy's Joby Talbot. Series 1 frightened the shit out of most people, with memorable characters such as Tubbs and Edward, Mr Chinnery, Pauline and Hilary Briss. (More detailed character list availble in the link page, on Robin's site).

The League
From left-Jeremy Dyson (minus his perm), Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss. Jeremy and Mark have written many books together including "The Essex Files" and Jeremy has also written the acclaimed "Never Trust A Rabbit". Reece has been in many films, including "This Year's Love", and the tv series "Spaced". Steve has produced and starred in serieses such as "Randell and Hopkirk Deceased" and "Gormanghast". They all hope to write and star in their own film. Jeremy doesn't appear in the series, as he has a phobia of lights and says, "I'm a writer, not an actor". Unfortunate.

The Live Shows-A Local Show For Local People
From 2000-2001 the League were touring the green fields of Britain with their live show.
The show was of 2 halves, the first half a series of sketches, performed by them looking sexy in tuxedos. This attire differentiated them from other Northern comedians, most who come on with piss stains on their shirts dropping obvious gags like bricks into their ever bored audience. The second half featured Royston Vasey, and some surprising twists. A video of a performance in Drury Lane was released before Christmas, and you indeed need this little piece of merchandise before you can truly be "Local".

The Future of Royston Vasey
Apparently the locals of Hadfield (where the series is filmed) are getting a tad pissed of with the filming, so it's unclear whether the next series will be filmed there or not. Robin Thorber of "Royston Vasey" site organises trips to Royston Vasey, and these remain an event. Quizzes are held in the Town Hall, and Hadfield seem very content with their fame, so whether the rumours of discontent are true remain a mystery. The last we saw of the Gents was the scary Christmas special... so ... the return of Papa Lazarou seems imminent...
